The special Board of Education retreat was held Wednesday, December 14, 2022 in the Board Meeting Room in the Elementary Building. Administrators present were Superintendent Bland, Secondary Principal Burton, and Elementary Principal Charling. President Anderson called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. and noted the Nebraska Open Meetings Law. Notice of this meeting was properly posted and/or published in the Oakland Independent by advance Public Notice in accordance with Board Policy #2008 with notice and advance agenda given to the President of the Board and all members prior to the meeting date. Kiley Johnson moved that Marilee Groth, Gus Ray, and Dane Johnson are absent, excused. Magnusson seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-6; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. ROLL CALL Roll Call was called with the following members present: Brett Johnson, Diane Pelan-Johnson, Kiley Johnson, Tim Magnusson, Henry Unwin and Aaron Anderson. Dane Johnson arrived at 6:20 p.m. REGULAR AGENDA There were no visitors present. STRATEGIC PLANNING Mrs. Bland reviewed the process that the Continuous Improvement Committee utilized to develop strategic plan priorities and action steps. The Board then worked in small groups to brainstorm short and long-term goals specific to the finances, facilities, and communication of the district. The full Board then reviewed each topic and developed goals and strategies specific to the Board of Education. Brett Johnson moved to enter into executive session at 7:20 p.m. to discuss long-term collective bargaining that has an impact on long-term financial planning for the district. Closed session is necessary for the protection of the public interest and permissible under law. Magnusson seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried. Brett Johnson moved to resume regular session at 7:54 p.m. Unwin seconded the motion. There was no discussion. Voting results were: For Motion-7; Against Motion-0. Motion carried.
