The regular monthly meeting of the Oakland Heights Board of Directors convened in open and public session on October 18, 2023 in the Oakland Heights Conference Room. Notice of the meeting was made public in advance thereof by posting notice in three places, one of the designated methods for giving advance notice. Minutes of the September 20, 2023 meeting were approved as distributed. Next meeting is planned for November 15, 2023. The meeting was called to order by President Judy Schernikau. A quorum was established with the presence of Randy Johnson, Kathy Rennerfeldt, Rosa Schmidt and Dan Tanksley, Jr. Also present was Administrator, David Deemer. Mr. Deemer was asked to present and lead discussion of items on the agenda. Discussion will continue for several more months on the proposed CMS staffing rules. Comments from multiple agencies throughout the State will be received until final set of guidelines is promulgated. Updated internal phone system will be installed and activated on October 19, 2023. Options include an automated prompt and direct dials to offices of choice. The nursing home kitchen range hood does not meet current State Fire Marshal codes and must be replaced. A pair of proposals have been offered to the board for review. No companies have been found to install the new hood. More research is planned. A proposal to convert doors at the Assisted Living and the Nursing Home South patio has been approved by the Board. A-1 United will install actuators on three doors for $13,655.39. A motion to install the actuators was offered by Randy Johnson with a second by Dan Tanksley, Jr. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried. A new fence will be installed around the Nursing Home patio area in Spring time of 2024. Medicare and Medicaid cost reports are being completed by Bland & Associates. Necessary information is being supplied from Karen and David for Bland & Associates to finish the reports. Research in underway to find best options for internet and cable television providers for the Nursing Home and Assisted Living. As of this writing, Oakland Heights has had 11 positive residents and 7 positive team members. There are no positive residents or staff in the Assisted Living. Residents are 77% vaccinated and staff are 36% vaccinated. A motion was offered by Kathy Rennerfeldt with a second from Rosa Schmidt to offer and pas expenses for Covid shots if resources and/or insurance policy will not cover the cost. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried. QAPI projects continue to concentrate on Life Safety and Health Survey plan of corrections. Oakland Heights needs a full-time dietary aide, full-time CNA/CMA for day and night shift, PRN RN/LPN for nights, and a full-time laundry aide. Oakland Heights census is 38 with assisted living census 17. Oakland Heights is currently a 4-star facility with 4-star quality measures. Incident summaries were reviewed, financials distributed and warrants submitted for payment. Motion was offered by Rosa Schmidt with a second from Daniel Tanksley, Jr. to pay the warrants. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried. A motion to adjourn was offered by Kathy Rennerfeldt with a second by Rosa Schmidt. On roll call all ayes no nays motion carried.
