The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Monday, March 11, 2024, in the Secondary Library. Present were Archer, Bacon, Brehmer, Christiansen, Miller, Myers, Petersen, Troutman, and Vlach. Lisa Christiansen opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Superintendent Report: An update was provided on the snow days we have used this year and the hours we have accumulated, per the state requirement. The teacher contracts were handed out for 2024-25 and are due back by March 15th. We are going to make a calendar change and have a 12:00 p.m. dismissal for students on Thursday, April 18th for the JH Cougar track meet. We are currently advertising and looking to hire a bus driver, head volleyball coach, and a paraprofessional. Principal Report: Professional development time over the last month was spent on special education/inclusion, child abuse, and HAL. There are many activities and events happening throughout the school, please check the website and social media for updates. Highlighting specific areas like plant sales, STEM activities, science research, state wrestling, speech, the annual chili feed, ACT, state FBLA, state FFA, prom, and NSCAS testing. The Building and Grounds Committee met for our bi-weekly meetings with Clark & Enersen and Boyd Jones on February 15th and 29th. The following motions were made: 1. To approve the consent agenda. 2. To accept the resignation of Mrs. Potadle at the end of the 2023-24 school year, with regrets. 3. To approve the teaching contract for Mrs. Brittney Moody for the 2024-2025 school year. 4. To approve the teaching contract for Mr. Bren Shatto for the 2024-2025 school year. Discussion was held on the superintendent evaluation form and a legislative update was provided.
