The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Monday, December 11, 2023. Present were Archer, Bacon, Brehmer, Christiansen, Miller, Myers, Petersen, and Vlach. Excused Absent was Troutman. Superintendent Report: Board members Bacon, Christiansen, Miller, Myers, Petersen, and Vlach attended the NASB conference in November and attended various workshops on negotiations, legislative changes, school staffing, and a variety of other topics. Superintendent Beaudette is currently serving as the NASA region 2 president-elect and will be the president for the 2024-2025 school year. Mr. Timm wrote and received a grant for his STEM Research Program in the amount of $4,681 from the NEA Foundation. The 2022-2023 annual report was distributed. Discussion was held on the EPIC tax initiative and how that could affect our school district. Principal Report: Professional development since our last board meeting has been on checking for student understanding, leadership walks, robotics/STEM, HAL, early childhood, and the implementation of our JAG program for the 2024-25 school year. Congratulations to the One Act team for their championship at the EHC competition and runner-up finish at districts. Congratulations to our student participating in All-State Band, EHC Honor Band, Wayne State Honor Band, and the Patriot Pen contest. The Building and Grounds Committee met for our bi-weekly meetings with Clark & Enersen and Boyd Jones on December 7th. The following motions were made: 1. To approve the consent agenda. 2. To review board policy 2009 – Public participation at board meetings and update the public comment rules, as presented. 3. To accept, with regret, the resignation of Ms. V. Von Seggern at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. 4. To enter into executive session to discuss teacher negotiations at 7:52 p.m. The board came out of executive session at 8:12 p.m. 5. To approve the 2-year LDEA negotiated agreement for 2024-25 and 2025-26.
