The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Monday, June 12, 2023, in the Elementary Library. Present were Archer, Bacon, Brehmer, Christiansen, Miller, Myers, Petersen, Troutman (arrived at 7:43 p.m.), and Vlach. Lisa Christiansen opened the meeting at 7:31 p.m. Superintendent Report: Our school improvement team spent the last month of school collecting and analyzing data to help in planning for our next 5-year cycle. The 2023-2024 coaching and sponsor list was shared and discussed. The 2023 senior exit survey was shared and discussed. Principal Report: Summer PAWS started on Monday, June 5th and will run for 3 weeks. Summer weights started on Monday, June 5th and we had 70 student-athletes attend the first day. There are various professional development opportunities our teachers and paraprofessionals are attending throughout the summer. We have 3 staff members who were awarded grant opportunities to work towards their master’s degree and we have 1 staff member awarded a grant opportunity to work towards a teaching degree. Mrs. Kwikkel will be representing LDNE as part of the College World Series games on June 19th by holding the American flag during the national anthem. The Building and Grounds Committee met for our bi-weekly meetings with Clark & Enerson and Boyd Jones on May 11th, May 25th, and June 8th. The following motions were made: 1. To approve the consent agenda. 2. To approve the required board policy updates: 3001, 3033, 4003, 4045, 4059, 5003, 5004, 5035, 5052, 6003, 6004, 6005 & Option Enrollment – Appendix 1 (Student Capacity). 3. To approve board policy updates: 3003.1, 3004.1, 3036, 3059, 5047, and 5064. Discussion: James Vlach provided an update on the legislative session. The next regular board meeting is Monday, July 10, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. in the Elementary Library.
