The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Monday, August 8, 2022. Present were Archer, Bacon, Brehmer, Christiansen, Miller, Myers, Petersen, Troutman, and Vlach. Lisa Christiansen opened the meeting at 7:31 p.m. Superintendent Report: LDNE was approached to join NRCSA, the membership benefits and cost were discussed. The NASB area membership meetings will be held in August in Fremont and Norfolk; Mr. Vlach will be presented his level VIII award on August 24th in Fremont. We will be completing a hazardous material survey and will plan to remove all asbestos in the building during our construction project. James Vlach was named as our representative for the Nebraska Liquid Asset Fund. Principal Report: Mr. Swanson and Mrs. Totten attended Administrator Days in July. All PK – 3rd grade teachers attended a CKLA reading program professional development training on August 3rd. The tentative professional development plan for 2022-2023 has been established. Homecoming is set for the week of August 29th – September 2nd. Building/Grounds Committee Report: Discussion was held, and ideas were shared about the gym floor and weight room design. The following motions were made: 1. to approve the consent agenda. 2. to suspend the regular meeting and open the student fees policy hearing at 8:31 p.m. 3. to close the student fees policy hearing and reopen the regular meeting at 8:32 p.m. 4. to suspend the regular meeting and open the parental involvement policy hearing at 8:32 p.m. 5. to close the parental involvement policy hearing and reopen the regular meeting at 8:33 p.m. 6. to approve board policies: 5001 Attendance/Excessive Absenteeism, 5018 Parental Involvement, 5045 Student Fees, 5052 Wellness, and 5054 Bullying, as presented.
