Emmett Lyle Johnson, 88

Emmett Lyle Johnson was born December 29, 1935, to Paul and Elsie (Murphy) Johnson, at their home in Macy, NE. He passed away on January 5, 2024, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, IA after fighting pneumonia.

He attended school in Macy, NE, where he completed 13 years without missing a day. He was awarded a perfect attendance pin, which he wore proudly. 

On March 29, 1960, he was married to Shirley “Sis” Kellogg. They moved to Decatur and raised their 5 children. 

Emmett worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 30+ years and spent his free time working with horses. After retiring in 1989, Emmett and Sis enjoyed traveling to the Badlands and Black Hills, to attend wagon trains/trail rides. They didn't go many places without seeing a familiar face.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Elsie, brothers: Tony, Donny, Paul Jr., and sister Doris; wife Shirley “Sis”; Sons: Gerry and Mark, and Grandson Lucas. 

Survivors include: Son Matthew Scott (Niki) Johnson of Decatur; Grandson Ethan (Semia Aldrich) Johnson of Onawa, IA and Great-Grandson Ryder; Granddaughter Josey (Caleb Harding) Johnson of Council Bluffs; Son Jon Johnson and Grandson Jake Johnson of Decatur; Daughter Jeania (Chad) McCulloch of Decatur; Granddaughter Molly (Taylor Clark) McCulloch of Kennard; Grandson Shane (Samantha) McCulloch of Decatur; and Great-Grandson Dax; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family. 

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, 10:30 am at Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur, NE with visitation the evening prior at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
