Elmer Roy Tippery, 97

Elmer Roy Tippery was born May 2, 1927, to Roy and Myrtle (Hightree) Tippery on the family farm in rural Decatur, Nebraska. He passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at Continental Springs in South Sioux City, Nebraska at the age of 97.

Elmer was the second of five children. He attended Busse country school, District 10 (the same school his father attended) through 8th grade and graduated from Decatur High School in 1944. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1945, at age 17, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and left the service in 1947.

Elmer purchased a plane that he flew while his brother Glen took aerial photos. He sold the plane for his first tractor.

Elmer purchased the farm in 1950 and married Laura Love Jacobsen on August 5, 1951. They were married 58 years until her death on Jan 25, 2010. He raised beef and dairy cattle, hogs and chickens and grew crops.

Elmer was a lifelong member of the Decatur Methodist Church in Decatur. He was also a

75-year member of the American Legion Rogers-Crum Post No. 215.

He is survived by his sister, Velma Hennig; son, Paul Tippery; daughter, Anne (Tippery) Hartgenbush and son-in-law, Danny; grand-daughter, Rhiannon; several nieces, nephews and cousins; sisters-in-law, Joan Tippery and Helen Tippery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura; daughter, Beth; brothers, Lyle, Glen and Vern; sisters-in-law, Helen and Gwen; nephew, Phillip Hennig; nieces, Cheryl Card, Janis Felkor and Carol Tippery.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, 10:00 am at United Methodist Church in Decatur, NE. Burial with military honors took place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, NE. Memorials suggested to the United Methodist Church - Decatur.
