Darold "Babe" Lee Mathews, Sr., age 86, of Oakland, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Darold was born Jan. 21, 1936, to Claude and Julia in Omaha. He was one of thirteen children. Darold served in the United States Army and served in the Korean War in 1958-1960. He was a radio relay operator and team chief. In the 50s and 60s he road and raced Motorcycles winning several titles. He raced all over the United States. In his racing days he was nicknamed "Rugged Babe".
He had four children and several grandchildren. Babe was a man of all trades. He was a butcher, mechanic, and retired from Omni Engineer.
A celebration of life visitation and refreshments will be held Monday, May 16, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Westlawn Hillcrest Funeral Home.
