City of Oakland Council Proceedings June 1st, 2023 On June 1st, 2023, the City Council of the City of Oakland, Nebraska, met on this day at 7:00 p.m. in a Special Meeting at the Municipal Building, 401 North Oakland Avenue in Oakland, Nebraska. The public had been advised of the meeting by publication of notice in Oakland Independent as well as three public places: City Auditorium, Post Office, and First NE Bank of Nebraska. Mayor Dan Jacobs started the meeting at 7:00 pm with Roll Call. Council President Nathan Anderson, Council Member JJ Johansen, Council Member Scott Swenson, and Council Amy Denker-Rost were all in attendance. All present Voting: Aye (Nathan, Jeremiah, Scott, Amy)- 4, Nay - 0. Also in attendance was Clerk Kayla Eisenmenger and Police Applicant James Hetzler + family and citizens Jennifer Anderson, Roger Johnson and Carol Jacobs Mayor Jacobs notified the public of the” Open Meetings Act.” Motions were made, seconded, and carried for the following items of business: 1) At 7:00pm Mayor D. Jacobs opened discussion from the public. With no comments made by public Mayor Jacobs closed open discussion at 7:02pm 2) At 7:02pm Council President Nathan Anderson made a motion to approve the Real estate purchase agreement made by and between City of Oakland, Nebraska, a Nebraska municipality (“Buyer”), and Roger W. Johnson, Trustee of the Roger and Suzanne Johnson Living Trust of PARCEL "A" A PARCEL OF LAND LOCATED IN THE NORTHWEST QUARTER OF SECTION 31, TOWNSHIP 22 NORTH, RANGE 9 EAST OF THE 6TH P.M., BURT COUNTY, NEBRASKA.” Motion was seconded by Council Member Jeremiah Johansen. All present Voting: Aye (Nathan, Jeremiah, Scott, Amy)- 4, Nay - 0. 3) At 7:25pm Council Member S. Swenson made a motion to pass the starting process of hiring James Hetzler as the Oakland NE Police Chief contingent upon the results of the background check and the form 791. At the wage of $30.00 per hour with a $15,000.00 bonus ($7,500 up front, $2,500 after six months and $5,000 after twelve months). Motion was seconded by Council President N. Anderson.
