The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Monday, January 10, 2022, in the Secondary Library. Present were Archer, Bacon, Brehmer, Christiansen, Miller, Myers, Petersen, and Vlach. Lindsey Beaudette opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Superintendent Report: The Safe Return Plan and ESSER III plan were reviewed and updated. School board committees from 2021 will remain the same for 2022. The conflict-of-interest policy was distributed to all board members. The administrative team has been working on staffing for the 2022-2023 school year; we plan to advertise for an ELA teacher, additional elementary teacher, and additional preschool teacher. Nebraska School Board Member Recognition week is January 30th – February 5th. Thank you to all our board members for their time and commitment to the students and staff of LDNE. Principal Report: Mike Donahue presented to our 7th – 12th grade students on leadership and making the right decisions. Paul Timm was honored at the Educators of Excellence Awards luncheon for his 2021 teacher of the year honors. The Society of Science is proud to announce Samantha Chavira having been named a top 300 scholar in the world for the science talent search. She has earned a $2,000 scholarship for herself and $2,000 for LDNE to be used for STEM materials for the school. Building and Grounds Committee Report: The building and grounds committee, along with the administration, have been meeting continually with Clark & Enersen and Boyd Jones to define the scope of the potential building project. We plan to schedule a meeting with the community steering committee as soon as possible. The following motions were made: 1. Elect Lisa Christiansen as President of the Burt County School District #20 School Board. 2. Elect Jaime Bacon as Vice President of the Burt County School District #20 School Board. 3. Elect James Vlach as Secretary-Treasurer of the Burt County School District #20 School Board. 4. Approve the consent agenda. 5. Designate Lyons-Decatur Education Association as the exclusive bargaining agent. 6. Pass a resolution calling a special election in Burt County School District #20.
