The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in the Secondary Library.  Present were Archer, Bacon, Brehmer, Christiansen, Miller, Myers, Petersen, Troutman, and Vlach. Lisa Christiansen opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Superintendent Report: We hosted our frameworks external review team on March 21st and 22nd. The visit went well, and we will begin planning for our next 5-year cycle. The hours in session for the year were distributed and discussed. We have hired a new social studies teacher for 2023-2024, Mr. Robin Burton. We will have a calendar change with a noon dismissal on Thursday, April 20th due to hosting the JH Cougar Track meet. The diplomas for the graduating seniors will be signed and Mrs. Bacon, Mrs. Christiansen, Mr. Myers, and Mr. Vlach plan to hand out diplomas during the ceremony. Teacher appreciation week will be celebrated on May 8th – 12th. Principal Report: There are a lot of events coming up throughout the months of April and May. The students and staff are busy with state conventions, track, the EHC art show, baseball, golf, state testing, field trips, banquets, and graduation. The elementary fundraiser sold over $30,000 worth of plants this year. The funds that are raised go towards field trips and activities throughout the elementary. A big thank you is extended to Beth Doht and Julie Brehmer for their help. Congratulations to the following students for receiving Academic All State Awards this winter: Brayden Hegge, Miriel Brokaw, Ashlynn Whitley, Sierra Heckenlaible, Gavin Hardeman, and Chance Mock. Congratulations to the following students for qualifying for the state competition in Science Research: Chance Mock, Alexander Timm, Kaylin Miller, Lexus Petersen, and alternate Karsen Olsen. The Building and Grounds Committee met for our bi-weekly meetings with Clark & Enerson and Boyd Jones on March 16th and March 30th. The following motions were made: 1. To approve the consent agenda. 2. To approve the 3rd JPA Resolution. 3. To approve the capacity for option enrollments for 2023-2024. 4. To approve the program offerings for 2023-2024. 5. To approve the classified staff package for 2023-2024. 6. To accept the letter of resignation from Mr. Mason Vrbka, effective at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Discussion: James Vlach provided an update on the legislative session.
