Minutes of the Burt County Board of Supervisors The Burt Co. Board of Supervisors met November 7, 2022 in the Co. Boardroom on the 2nd floor of the Burt Co. Courthouse in Tekamah, NE. Notice was given in the Lyons Mirror-Sun, on courthouse bulletin board and on Co.’s Website. A proof of publication is on file with the Co. Clerk. The following members were present: David Schold, Kevin P. Tobin, Gary “Bird” Swanson, Carl Pearson, Dale Webster and Ted Connealy. Absent – Paul Richards. The meeting opened at 9:00 A.M. with the pledge of Allegiance. Chairman Schold informed the public that the Open Meeting Act is posted on the wall. The agenda was approved… motion Connealy, Webster, Ayes – 6. Absent – 1. The minutes of the 10/28/2022 Supervisors meeting were approved… motion Pearson, Swanson, Ayes – 6, Absent -1. October Office Reports, Fund Balances, and Receipts of $255,799.24 were all approved… motion Swanson, Connealy, Ayes – 6. Absent -1. Donette Jackson (5000 CoRd. HI, Tekamah) Submitted documents she had referencing contact she had with the Corp of Engineers regarding concerns she has about the Eagle Island project and concerns of negative effects the project may cause down river in the event of another river flood. Lot Split was signed for Anna M. Anderson, Trustee of Dwain R. Anderson Living Trust; 7.67 acres in pt. NW ¼ NW ¼ of 19-21-9. Courtroom Equipment Upgrades: Michele Quick, District Court Clerk reported to the Board that the State of Nebraska intends to update Courtroom equipment in all of the courtrooms across the State. The equipment upgrades (i.e. monitors, microphones, cameras, recording equip, etc.) will make it so courts are more uniform across the state and will make it easier to hold hearings remotely when necessary. The equipment costs themselves are paid for by a Grant the State received, the only costs to Counties may be wiring, etc. for initial installation needs. The equipment will come with a 5 year warranty and service plan; after 5 years the equipment becomes the property of the County to be maintained. A memo of understanding with the (AOCP) Admin Office of Courts & Probation will need to be signed by the Board Chair before the project will begin; Co. Attorney will review the MOU, after review Chairman Schold will sign. PUBLIC COMMENT: Bill Price (1615 CoRd. 10, Lyons) Shared a story about the Nov. 4, 1979 “Iranian Hostage Crisis” at the US Embassy in Tehran; his family members were among the citizens. Price shared that Government Compensation Laws took years to be created and were never fully followed through with. He wanted to share the experience/story to honor his family.
